The start of something new!

Well! This week has been a momentous one! After two years of deliberating we have finally bitten the bullet and decided to open our own B & B business in our home. The week has been a hive of activity putting the finishing touches to our annexe for the comfort of our guests.

We live in Chiddingstone Hoath, a small rural hamlet, in the most beautiful part of Kent in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and an area of Special Interest.  Our historic 17th cottage dates back to 1642 and is located up a short bumpy track just off  a quiet country road. The area is a haven for cyclists and walkers alike. Gatwick Airport is approx. 20 miles away and there are regular services to London and the South Coast from our local station, Cowden, approximately two miles away.

Our ground floor annexe has a step into a wide lobby area and then two further steps into the pretty bedroom with bi-fold doors that open on to a patio overlooking the main garden. There is also a dressing room off the bedroom that is large enough to take bunk beds and guests are invited to bring two children up to the age of 14 (by prior arrangement.)

There is also a private bathroom with roll top bath, WC and wash hand basin with soft towels and a selection of complimentary toiletries.

The attractively decorated bedroom offers:
Luxurious King sized bed with 12" deep pocket sprung mattress
High Thread Count Egyptian Cotton Bedding
Side tables
Tea and Coffee making facilities
Dressing table with vanity mirror and hairdryer
Television with Sky access
Book case with selection of board games and books
Wardrobe in dressing room with drawer
Trouser Press

Breakfast is taken in our Garden Room overlooking the well maintained garden which backs on to arable farmland.

Breakfast comprises:
Full English Breakfast with locally sourced produce- (vegetarian options available)
Continental breakfast with yogurts, fruit juices, herbal and regular teas and coffee.

Please advise in advance of any special dietary requirements.

Chartwell home of Winston Churchill
On our doorstep is a selection of wonderful country castles, grand estates and National Trust properties, notably Chartwell (home of Winston Churchill for 40 years), Scotney Castle, Knole House, home to the last remaining medieval herd of Red Deer in Kent and Ightham Mote.

Chiddingstone Castle

Our very own Chiddingstone Castle is very close by and hosts a series of wonderful exhibitions, occasional Llama trekking, country fairs and events.

Hever Castle, the family home of Ann Boleyn- wife of Henry VIII, is a few minutes drive away and hosts a wonderful selection of entertainments including jousting in the summer months, Christmas fairs and a Triathlon in the Autumn with participants from all around the world.

The Ashdown Forest, birthplace of Winnie the Pooh, is just a short hop away by car. The Forest offers spectacular views and walks and there are several tea rooms for afternoon tea and refreshments.

Should you wish to visit a public house, The Rock Inn, a Grade II Listed gem, is like stepping back in time  with it's worn brick floor, beams and inglenook fireplace and is well worth a visit and it's just a short stroll away.

If you wish to venture a little further there are many recommended hostelries and restaurants all within a few minutes drive.

As this blog evolves we will be featuring recommended local attractions, pubs and restaurants to name but a few.

We look forward to taking you on this journey with us.
